Following the World Health Organization's (WHO) warning to detect counterfeit Covishield vaccines in Southeast Asia and Africa, the Union Department of Health has written to all provinces and Union Territories to obtain counterfeit Covishield drugs in India. COVID-19 vaccine monitoring teams in the United States are provided with information on how to work hard.
The Department stated in its letter: “Nations have been instructed to carefully consider the principles before implementing them. The center provided information on the identification of the first labels of three vaccines imported into India (Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik V). “The Department has issued guidelines to ensure that the counterfeit COVID-19 vaccine is not handled in India.
The WHO noted that the fake Covishield (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 Corona Virus Vaccines-Recombinant) has been identified in the WHO Region of Africa and the South-East Asia Region. “False products were reported to WHO in July and August 2021. The real manufacturer of COVISHIELD (Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd.) has confirmed that the listed products are not genuine. These counterfeit products have been reported at patient level in Uganda, India and Myanmar, ”said the World Health Organization.
The real Covishield vaccine has been shown to be an effective vaccine for people 18 years of age or older to prevent SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection, adds WHO.
It further advised: “The use of the standard COVID-19 vaccine must be in accordance with the official guidelines from the national regulatory authorities. The counterfeit COVID-19 drugs pose a serious threat to public health and place additional burdens on vulnerable people and health systems. It is important to find and remove these false products from the bloodstream to prevent injury to patients. ”
In its latest letter the Department of Health of the Union has highlighted the various aspects of obtaining real products. Anti-counterfeit features on the Covaxin label include an invisible helix (a DNA-like structure) on a label that is visible only under UV light; a small note hidden in the Dots labels, labeled Covaxin; the effect of green foil on the 'x' of Covaxin; and holographic effect on Covaxin.
At the Sputnik vaccine, the Department said it was an imported product from two different mass production sites from Russia with two different labels on both sites. “While all the information and design are the same, only the manufacturer's name is different. Of all the products imported so far, the English label is only available on the front and back of the 5 ampoule pack box while all other parts including the main label on the ampoule are Russian, ”the Department said in its letter.
It also lists the identification guidelines for product labels of the Serum Institute of India in Covishield. The Department said the label's color was green ('Shade: Pantone 355C') in terms of approved artwork, and the brand name appeared with a trademark mark, namely, 'COVISHIELDTM'. The text font of a common word seems to be bold, that is, while listing other factors to consider.
Meanwhile, Extraordinary Secretary, Department of Education, Santosh Kumar Sarangi said earlier this week that more than 80% of teaching and non-teaching staff in public and private schools across the country had been vaccinated so far.
The Department of Health on Sunday said that, to date, more than 66.89 crore (66,89,80,635) vaccines have been given to countries; 1. 56 Cr prices (1, 56,96,450) are piped; and more than 4.37 Cr (4,37,83,160) balance and unused COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the country to be supplied.
