The Pakistani cricket team will be coached by Australia's Matthew Hayden and South Africa's Vernon Philander during the T20 World Cup, new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja said at a press conference on Monday.
Hayden and Philander will take over from Misbah ul Haq and Waqar Younis, who resigned one month before the tournament.
Commenting on Hayden, Raja said: “Australia could bring some violence to the party. He has World Cup experience and was a world-class player. Having an Australian person in the dressing room will be of great benefit to us. ”
To Philander he said, "I know him well, he understands bowling sounds and he has a good record in Australia."
The development of Hayden and Philander's addition to Pakistan's thinktank comes after the abrupt cancellation of Misbah and Waqar one month before the T20 World Cup. Last week, the PCB announced that Misbah and Waqar had resigned and that former Pakistan players Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq would be interim coaches for now.
