Thousands of farmers flock to 'Kisan mahapanchayat' in Muzaffarnagar

Thousands of farmers from Uttar Pradesh and neighboring provinces on September 5 gathered in Muzaffarnagar for a ‘Kisan mahapanchayat’ aimed at “saving the country”, just months before the crucial U.P. Meeting ideas.
The event was organized by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) at the Government Inter College in Muzaffarnagar in protest of the disputed Farm rules.

“These conventions will be held throughout the country. We have to stop the country from being sold. Farmers must be saved, land saved; Business people, workers and the youth must be saved - this is the purpose of the conference, ”said Baratiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesman Rakesh Tikait.

Famous names like Medha Patkar and Jogendra Yadav appeared on the podium. Mr. Yadav was presented with a yellow robe by Mr. Tikait, while the BKU leader presented the figure at the event.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Sunday described the protesting farmers as "our flesh and blood" and suggested that the government should join them in reaching an agreement.

BKU News Manager Dharmendra Malik said farmers from 300 organizations spread across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, among others, participated in the event.

He said more than 5,000 ‘langars’ had been set up (dining tables), including some mobile tables, set up for participants.

Farmers, including women carrying flags of various organizations and wearing colorful caps, were seen arriving in the area by bus, car, and tractor.

A Karnataka female farmer leader presented the gathering in Kannada.

One of the participants blew a 'ransingha' (trumpet), a picture of which was posted by Kisan Ekta Morcha on Twitter.

“In ancient times, when war was to be honored and respected, the metal [ransingha] was used. Today, there has been a call for war by all the 'kisan majdoor' unions against the BJP's corporate raj ', "writes Twitter in Hindi.

Meanwhile, Muzaffarnagar officials have rejected King Rashtriya Lok Dal's (RLD) request for Jayant Chaudhry to spray flowers from a helicopter and mahapanchayat participants.

City magistrate Abhishek Singh dismissed the application, saying it would not be granted for security reasons.

Regional authorities have sent police to the residence of Union Minister Sanjiv Balyan and BJP MLA member Umesh Malik here, as a precautionary measure.

SKM on Saturday demanded that thousands of farmers from 15 countries come to Muzaffarnagar to participate in the mahapanchayat.

The 40 Farmers 'Union, which is leading the farmers' riots in the three-day farm rules of the farm, said the event would prove that the riots could be supported by "all actors, religions, Americans, classes, small traders and other sections of the community".

“The September 5 mahapanchayat will make Yogi-Modi governments realize the potential of farmers, farm workers and farm union supporters. Muzaffarnagar mahapanchayat will be the largest in the last nine months, ”SKM said in a statement.

It also said that there are 100 medical camps set up for farmers going to mahapanchayat.

The farmers' protest against three anti-immigration laws has been going on for more than nine months since they first arrived at the Delhi border. They have been demanding the abolition of these laws, which they fear will scrap the MSP program, leaving them with large companies.
